The Official Grand Central Terminal Tour

PUBLIC TOURS

When is the public tour offered?
The public tour is offered at 12:30 PM every day of the week. MAS’s daily public tour is offered in English.

How can I buy tickets?
Tickets are available online at mas.org/tours/grandcentral or in person at the Grand Central Terminal at the ticket window marked “GCT Tours” in the Main Concourse. There are a limited number sold each day and tickets will not be sold after 12:25 PM.

How late can I buy my ticket online?
Online ticket sales end at 10am the day of the tour. If purchasing your ticket between 10am – 12:25pm the day of the tour, please make your purchases at the ticket window marked “GCT Tours” in the Main Concourse.

How much does the tour cost?
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors, students, children under 10, members of the military, Metro-North riders bearing same-day ticket stubs, and MAS Members.

Are there group rates?
Yes, 10 people constitute a group and costs $20 per person at the group rate.

How long does the tour last?
The tour lasts 75 minutes.

Where does the tour begin?
The tour begins in front of the entrance to Track 29 in the Main Concourse, however you must first check-in at the ticket window marked “GCT Tours” in the Main Concourse.

What will we see on the tour?
This tour covers all of the publicly accessible areas of the terminal and also travels outside to discuss the building’s exterior and its context within the neighborhood. Each docent designs their own tour and no tour is exactly the same. However, each docent does include information on the Main Concourse, the Lower Concourse, Vanderbilt Hall, the Campbell Apartment, the Whispering Gallery and Terminal City.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the terminal has elevators to use if necessary during the tour. While there are many ramps throughout the terminal, they are not ADA compliant.

Who are the docents?
Our docents are enthusiastic New Yorkers from all walks of life who love Grand Central Terminal! The Municipal Art Society requires its docents to complete a rigorous 5-week course with expert speakers, essential readings, research, and hands-on learning to prepare each docent to develop and lead their own unique tour. The program is comparable to a graduate level introduction to the history of New York City.

Do the docents use a microphone?
Yes, docents are equipped with a microphone device and visitors are given listening devices. Before the start of the tour,the docent will make sure visitor’s device is switched to the right channel and that everyone can hear properly before the tour departs.

Do the docents accept tips?
No, our docents do not accept tips.

What is the refund policy on public tours?
Walking tours of Grand Central will be held rain or shine.  We cannot offer refunds or exchanges.

 

PRIVATE TOURS

How can I book a private tour?
You can book a private tour by calling 212-464-8255 during regular business hours. We will need 10 business days advanced notice for your preferred tour date.  To book a tour to begin after 5:00 PM, please call 212-935-3960 ext. 1285.

How much does a private tour cost?
Private Grand Central tours are $500 for up to 25 people. We accept all major credit cards except American Express. Sorry, no checks.

Do the docents accept tips for private tours?
No, our docents do not accept tips.

When can I book a private tour?
We would be happy to arrange the tour for your preferred date and time; however we cannot book private tours between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Although it’s possible, we recommend you do not schedule your private tour during rush hours (7:00 AM – 10:00 AM; 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM).  Private tours booked during rush hours are limited to 15 people.

What is the refund policy on private tours?
A 50% refund is available if cancelled up to one week prior to the date of your tour. After that, 100% of tour fee is retained.
